November 2000
INDEX
If you have not already sent in your ballot, please do so before Tuesday, Nov. 7. Please pay attention to Carpenter issues when voting. The International put the “Carpenters Bill of Rights” in the last issue of the Carpenter Magazine. The candidates that unions support are the ones that do the best job of supporting working class issues. How you vote is ultimately your decision, so be sure and participate.

Carpenters back Brian Baird
Local 1715 President Jim Sevier presents Harry Glaus a $5,000 check for Brian Baird’s re-election campaign. Brian wasn’t able to attend our last meeting but he sent Harry and made a special videotape which was viewed at the meeting. Sevier was a guest at our last meeting, and since Brian is from Clark County, Sevier presented the check, which was from the international. |
Congratulations to our apprentices

Oregon SW Washington Carpenters kick off Christmas Toy Drive 2000
The PNWRCC is sponsoring the second annual area-wide toy drive for our Locals in Oregon and SW Washington.
Last year the Council along with Locals 247, 1388, 2130 and Fair Contracting contributed 248 toys to the Toy and Joy Makers. Locals 190, 306, 1065, 1273 and 1715 all stepped forward to donate gifts to organizations in their communities. Our combined efforts last year resulted in the donation of over 500 gifts and in excess of $1,100 directed towards charity programs in our respective communities. The Carpenters were featured as major contributors to the Toy Drive and received some great media coverage during the KPTV Channel 12 “Good Day Oregon” morning show.
We would encourage you to help us make this year’s Christmas special for those less fortunate. You may drop presents off a the Council office or your Local by Friday, Dec. 15, 2000. Please wrap presents and identify them by gender and age group for the best match.
Is there something you want but don’t see in the Local 247 newsletter? Contact Bruce Dennis, 503-289-9632, with ideas.
