With the Legislative Session having closed in Salem, we will be able to look
back on how well Labor did overall in this session. I will have a more thorough
report in next month’s paper, but we did have many victories and a lot of
disappointments in this go-round. A lot of bills were introduced and made it
through the technical part of the process only to be stalled in committee. The
good thing is they have already been written and can be brought back in the next
session. Next year is a critical year for Labor and our country, so please make
sure you are registered to vote, at your present address, and have registered at
www.nwcarpenters.org to be on the
e-mail list so we can contact you about important Carpenter issues. Thank you,
and hope you had a Happy Independence Day.
Local 247 has a scholarship program available for members’ children and
grandchildren. Guidelines are available at the office. Applications and Labor
History Essays are due in the office by Aug. 28, 2007. Please call or drop by
the office for any questions or more information.
