Carpenters Local 247 June 2006 meeting report

Pacific Northwest Regional Council of Carpenters

At the Pacific Northwest Regional Council of Carpenters quarterly meeting in Missoula,Montana, Bob Hanson was honored for his service to the Regional Council in Missoula.
Bob retired at the end of June.

Delegates held a rally which focused on the
importance of health care coverage.

By Bruce Dennis
President

The June meeting was a special call meeting for the purpose of electing Regional Council delegates, Northwest Oregon Labor Council delegates, and one 247 trustee. The duties of the various offices were explained and discussed. The nominees were given an opportunity to speak to the members about their candidacy. Election results are as follows:

Trustee: Gene Picariello

Council delegates: Joe Baron, Shaun Cushman, Darell Duffy, Willie Gore, Gene Picariello, Jason Sheckler, Mark Wagoner, and Joe Whitney, Christie Kern, and Gene Lawhorn. Bruce Dennis and Pete Savage remain as automatic Delegates by virtue of their position on the Regional Executive Board.

Northwest Oregon Labor Council delegates: Joe Baron, Bruce Dennis, Gene Lawhorn, and Jason Sheckler.

Council delegate alternates: Ben Basom, John McGraw, and Kevin Stokes.

Election Committee: Frank Kimmel, Mike Couch, and Greg Aleshire.

We had job reports, apprenticeship and training reports, and delegate reports as well.

The elections seemed to dominate the meeting. We broke twice to cast ballots and had to wait at the end of the meeting for final tallies on the alternate delegates.

Members agreed to help send Tyrell, a member’s son from Parkrose High School, to the National Wrestling Championship in Fargo, North Dakota.

We also passed the hat for an injured member and a member who lost his infant son recently. The local matched the collection from our contingency fund.
Jamie Partridge, Letter Carriers Local 82, will attend July’s meeting to give a presentation about labor conditions in Venezuela.

A motion passed to give a 247 jacket to Kenny Meester, who urged a contractor to sign a union agreement in order to go to work for him.
