We had 89 members and one guest present at our December regular meeting of
Carpenters Local 247.
We had a presentation from Pete Hackett regarding the proposed Liquefied Natural
Gas (LNG) project near Astoria on the Columbia River. Questions and answers
followed the presentation.
We obligated new members and swore in new delegate Kevin Stokes, and Mike
Anderson as vice president and alternate delegate.
We heard a report from the Metro-wide Political Committee. Local 247 agreed to
concur with their endorsement recommendations, which were Jefferson Smith
running in House District 47, and Ben Westlund for State Treasurer.
We had reports on organizing, benefit improvements and steward training. Patrick
Mapes was presented a 247 jacket, recognizing his completion of apprenticeship.
We had a variety of comments under “Good of the Order” and Jeremy Larsen sang
his song, “Brothers Like You,” which he wrote for Union Brothers as a “thank
you” for supporting him.
Gary Zinn reported on a volunteer trip to help flood victims in Louisiana early
next year. He will submit an article with more information.
We raffled off Christmas hams and adjourned at 7:50 p.m. For more complete info:

From all of us here at Local 247, we would personally like to thank all those
members who donated to our Toy Drive. We had quite a successful year! Our local
donated over 300 toys to the Regional Council office. PNWRCC donated the toys to
the Toy & Joy Makers of Portland.
