We
had 67 members present for our regular meeting of Carpenters Local 247.
Under reports, we heard about the start of the remodel job at the training
center. The business reps reported about a variety of new job starts and
jobs in planning stages. We got a political report from Chairman Joe Baron:
85 percent of our endorsed candidates were elected. Jobs with Justice had a
rally focusing on the "Lame Duck" Congress in session prior to the new
Congress. We passed the hat for Apprentice Eileen Schmidt, who has some
extra expenses due to a friends' illness. Members generously donated $301,
which was matched by the local contingency fund. We got a report on
construction at the International Training Center. Gary Zinn thanked the
local for helping with expenses to travel to Mississippi to help hurricane
victims with construction needs. Members were encouraged to support each
other and stand in solidarity together.
Under New Business, we agreed to support a Council effort to fund a
parade float. We also agreed to increase our Food Bank donation for the
holiday season. We had 28 turkeys as door prizes and several shirts and
packages of Doernbecher Children's Hospital Christmas cards as well.
This report only covers the primary topics and issues. For complete
information, be there
and participate in your Union.

What a great election for labor friendly candidates! By phone banking,
sending a letter to all our members in the state, sign waving on the corners and
getting out the vote, we managed to elect 78 percent of our endorsed candidates
and prevail on 7 of 9 initiatives. BIG thanks to all of our members who got
involved in the campaigns and voiced their opinion by casting their vote.
The following members are celebrating their birthday this month. We would
