We
had 78 members and three guests present at out regular March meeting of
Carpenters Local 247.
Apprentice Coordinator John Schraner reported on training issues, the May 3rd
completion dinner and a History Channel segment on carpenter tools at our
training center. We got a report from Regional Manager Peter Savage covering
upcoming negotiations, upcoming jobs, benefit changes and staff activities. We
also had several delegates give reports about our recent Quarterly Regional
Council meeting. Our financial report was positive in both the general and
building funds Under “Good of the Order,” the proposed Liquefied Natural Gas
project was discussed from several members’ different viewpoints.
Sherrie and Dawn were thanked for preparing the corned beef and cabbage St.
Patrick’s Day dinner for the members in attendance. Medical Care, Workers
Compensation and “cross-trade solidarity” were also topics of discussion.
Under “Unfinished Business,” we discussed last month’s proposal to finance a
billboard at a Vancouver baseball park. Later, under “New Business,” we took up
a collection, and the trustees agreed to finance the remainder of a one-year
billboard commitment.
A motion was passed requesting a letter of support for Brian Carson’s
addition to the tradeshow negotiation team. A Metro political report was given,
and Local 247 concurred with their endorsements of Sho Dozono for Portland
mayor; Randy Leonard, Mike Fahey, and Nick Fish for Portland City Council; and
Toby Forsberg for Oregon House in House District 39.
The meeting lasted until 9:05 p.m., and naturally, more was said than is
reflected in this report. For complete info … attend your union meetings.
